Man convicted and fined over nine plumbing charges

A man has been convicted and fined $8000 for illegally carrying out plumbing work after the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) charged him with nine counts in relation to sites in Berwick, Dandenong, Wantirna South and Mornington.
On 6 November 2014 in the Dandenong Magistrates' Court, Mr Dean Ellul of Noble Park North was found guilty of one charge of holding himself out as being a licensed plumber and eight charges of completing plumbing work while unlicensed.
Mr Ellul carried out plumbing work in classes of water supply work, mechanical services work, gasfitting work and sanitary work, despite not being licensed to complete this work. Complaints were made to the VBA, who then investigated and found he was working unlicensed and unregistered.
Director of Compliance and Performance Murray Smith said the VBA urges all consumers to ensure their plumbing practitioner is licensed or registered.
"A person who carries out plumbing work in Victoria must be registered or licensed with the VBA. All licensed plumbers have the appropriate qualifications and experience for the class of plumbing work in which they are licensed," Mr Smith said."
Any consumers looking to verify a plumbing practitioner's registration or licence can do so by clicking on the 'Find a Practitioner' tab in the top right hand corner of this website.
