VBA to audit demolition work

Wednesday November 26 2014

The VBA will soon commence a performance audit of demolition work in metropolitan and rural areas.

The audit will examine documentation prepared by registered builder-demolishers and relevant building surveyors leading up to and including the issue of the building permit. It will also look at physical building sites to assess compliance against legislative requirements.

The audit will focus on areas that have been identified as presenting a risk, including protection measures and appropriate registration of building practitioners involved in the work.

The VBA monitors building work by registered building practitioners to ensure that it is carried out competently and to a professional standard, and that it does not pose any risk of injury or damage to people.

The audit will be conducted from late 2014 to early 2015, with findings to be released by the middle of 2015.
