Use of aluminium composite cladding
Thursday, 14 May 2015
The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) has used its performance audit powers to compel builder LU Simon to provide information on any building projects where it has used Alucobest aluminium composite cladding.
LU Simon identified two buildings – Aura on Flinders Apartments at 534 Flinders Street, Melbourne, and Mitcham Village Apartments at 1–19 Colombo Street, Mitcham.
The City of Melbourne Municipal Building Surveyor and the City of Whitehorse Municipal Building Surveyor inspected the buildings in their respective municipalities and advised the VBA that the use of the Alucobest product has not compromised their continued safe occupation.
Notifications have been sent by the Municipal Building Surveyors to the building owners or their representatives. The Municipal Building Surveyor in each case has also referred the matter to the relevant building surveyor for any further consideration.
If the VBA identifies buildings where Alucobest or any other aluminium composite cladding has been used in a potentially non-compliant manner, it will take the following steps:
- Notify the local Municipal Building Surveyor, who will
- inspect each location and determine if there is a risk to occupants and notify them of the results of that inspection and any further actions that might be required; and
- notify the VBA of the results of the inspection
- Notify the general public by posting the details on its website.
