ABCB Advisory Note - Fire Performance of External Walls and Cladding
Friday September 2 2016
At its meeting on 19 February 2016, the Building Ministers' Forum agreed to the development and implementation of a range of measures to help address risks nationally associated with high risk cladding products on high rise buildings, including a National advisory note. The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) has published the Advisory Note Fire Performance of External Walls and Cladding to provide guidance on how the National Construction Code (NCC) should be interpreted to assist in future decisions on product selection, installation and certification.
This Advisory Note clarifies the application of Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions relating to the fire performance of external walls (including cladding products of external walls) of buildings of Type A and Type B construction as well as information on a new Australian Standard for testing of external wall assemblies (AS 5113) and on CodeMark Certificates of Conformity.
The Advisory Note is available from the ABCB website and supersedes the VBA Industry Alert External Walls and BCA Compliance.
