New domestic building dispute resolution service for builders and home owners
Tuesday May 2 2017
Due to recent legislative changes Building Advice Conciliation Victoria (BACV) closed on 24 April 2017. As a result, the VBA no longer offers Domestic Building Inspections. In its place, as a new building dispute resolution service, Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV) has been established.
DBDRV commenced on 26 April 2017 and is a new Victorian Government Service set up to resolve building disputes between building practitioners and owners without the cost and time often associated with courts and tribunals. It will also have the power to issue legally binding dispute resolution orders and certificates.
DBDRV is a free impartial dispute resolution service for both builders and home owners.
From 26 April 2017, builders and owners will have to apply to resolve their domestic building dispute through DBDRV before applying to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
From 26 April 2017 if you cannot resolve your building dispute you can submit an online application to DBDRV at www.dbdrv.vic.gov.au.
If you are seeking free advice and information to help you resolve building disputes you can contact the Building Information Line on 1300 55 75 59.
