ABCB commences consultation on Fire Sprinkler Regulatory Impact Statement

The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is inviting stakeholders to comment on the Automatic Fire Suppression Systems for Covered Balconies in Residential Buildings Consultation Regulation Impact Statement (RIS). The RIS assesses the problem of fire occurring on balconies of residential buildings over 25 metres and considers options to safeguard occupents in the case of a fire event.

EPA video urges builders to ‘know where your waste is going’

Know where your waste is going - that's EPA's message in a new video targeting anyone producing or transporting construction and demolition (C&D) waste in Victoria.

Released as part of EPA's Illegal Dumping Strikeforce Program dedicated to tackling large scale dumping of industrial waste, EPA's video urges building contractors and site managers to check that their C&D waste has been transported to an appropriate recycler or landfill.

Consumers cautioned against online DIY tutorials

Do it yourself videos appeal to the home handy person, but could be providing advice that leads to poor and even illegal outcomes. The Victorian Building Authority warns that certain jobs around the home are not only best left to the professionals, but legally can only be done by someone who is registered and or licensed to do the work.
