Get to know your responsibilities as a Technical Referee

As part of the VBA's improved licensing and registration process, applicants must now provide a Technical Referee Report with their application for registration as a plumbing or building practitioner. The report asks for specific information about the applicant's work, when it was performed and the applicant's role in performing that work. This information helps the VBA and the BPB to assess applicants' suitability for registration.

VBA Industry Alert on use of combustible materials in external wall construction

The VBA has released an Industry Alert designed to clarify circumstances where combustible materials may be used in the construction of the external walls of certain buildings. The Alert follows the release of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade's post incident analysis report into the Lacrosse apartment fire and the Victorian Building Authority's (VBA) audit of Class 2, 3 and 9 buildings. Through the audit the VBA has become aware of considerable variation in industry understanding regarding the use of aluminium composite panels (ACP) and other combustible materials in the construction of external walls.

VBA releases External Wall Cladding Audit Report

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) External Wall Cladding Audit has found Melburnians can continue to have confidence in the safety of the buildings they live in and use but that non-compliance in the use of external wall cladding materials is unacceptably high.
