1. Person Responsible for a Building Project

There is one class in which you can apply to register:

  • Project Manager (Domestic)

A Project Manager (Domestic) is responsible for managing or arranging the carrying out of domestic building work by registered domestic builders. They cannot carry out the domestic building work themselves, or arrange for unregistered builders to carry out the work.

Building surveyors are not able to provide building permits to practitioners registered in the class of Project Manager (Domestic). Also, practitioners in the class of Project Manager (Domestic) are not able to enter into major domestic building contracts. This is due to legislative changes that came into effect on 1 July 2017. The VBA is actively looking for solutions to this issue. We will provide further information once available.

You should carefully consider the above information to decide whether Project Manager (Domestic) is an appropriate registration for yourself and your business. If you want to apply for Project Manager (Domestic) and are planning to enter into major domestic building contracts or obtain building permits, please contact the VBA on 1300 815 127.

For more information about the introduction of Project Manager (Domestic), please read the Fact Sheet and Frequently Asked Questions.
