A man has been convicted and fined a total of $8000 after being charged by the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) on two counts of carrying out building work illegally.

Mr James Vo came under scrutiny by the VBA after it received separate complaints from two home owners about renovation projects at Keysborough in 2011 and 2012.

The first complaint related to a large extension and renovation job started in September 2011. Mr Vo quoted $100,000 for the work and demanded a $10,000 deposit from the homeowner prior to commencing. The second complaint was regarding a carport that another homeowner had employed Mr Vo to build in February 2012.
