Corkman Irish Pub demolition

Wednesday, 19 October 2016

The VBA is working with the City of Melbourne Municipal Building Surveyor – and is conducting its own investigation – to determine any breaches of the Building Act 1993 (the Act) in regards to the demolition of The Corkman Irish Pub (previously known as the Carlton Inn) on Sunday 16 October, specifically the VBA will be looking at whether there has been a breach  of S.16, carrying out building work without a building permit issued and in force  (building work includes demolition work).
Each breach related to this type of offending carries a maximum penalty of $388,650 for a corporation, and $77,730 for an individual.  The VBA has the power to discipline a registered practitioner in relation to breaches such as these, including  de-registration and suspension of registration.
