Plumbing and Building Amendment Regulations 2016

Monday, 2 May 2016

The Governor in Council made the Plumbing Amendment Regulations 2016 on the 19 April 2016 and the Building Amendment Regulations 2016 on 26 April 2016.

Both regulatory amendments transfer the legal instrument addressing fire sprinkler protection requirements for covered balconies from the Plumbing Regulations 2008 and Building Regulations 2006 to the Plumbing Code of Australia 2016 and Building Code of Australia 2016 respectively. The regulatory requirements for these have not changed, only the instrument that calls up the requirements.

In addition to this key change, there were a number of miscellaneous changes.

The Plumbing Amendment Regulations 2016 also updated a number of reference standards in the Plumbing Regulations 2008 to reflect revised titles. They do not materially change the way plumbing practitioners are expected to carry out their work.

The Building Amendment Regulations 2016 also provides a mechanism for building owners to use AS1851.1 – 2012 for the maintenance of essential safety measures in lieu of the version of the Standard listed on the occupancy permit as well as revoke regulations 119, 120 and 121 to align Victoria with new provisions for farm buildings in the National Construction Code 2016
