Plumbing Technical Update: Multilayer proprietary gas consumer piping

Friday, 29 July 2016

Multilayer proprietary pipe has become a popular choice of material for gas consumer piping. However, the VBA has found that a growing number of practitioners are failing to protect these pipes from UV degradation.

AS/NZS 5601.1 Gas Installations Part 1: General Installations

The gas installation standard AS/NZS 5601.1 Gas Installations Part 1: General installations require all multilayer piping to be protected from UV degradation.

When using any proprietary piping system, plumbing practitioners are responsible for reviewing the limitations of the use of the product, and the impact any limitations will have on the installation of the piping system.

Practitioners must comply with any specific installation instructions and any warnings issued by the manufacturer of their chosen system.

Practitioners must ensure that multilayer piping systems are protected from UV degradation. The VBA advises practitioners to refer to product manufacturers for information on the limitations to piping systems and product specifications.
