VBA prosecutions and disciplinary matters: April update

Monday, 2 May 2016

Enforcement is a key regulatory function of the Victorian Building Authority and April has seen several actions resulting from investigations conducted by the organisation.

The high profile Mt Waverley excavation collapse has resulted in recommendations against four practitioners following a VBA investigation. The VBA has also successfully investigated and prosecuted two unregistered builders in April.

An unregistered plumber and builder from Bulla has been fined $10,000 and ordered to pay costs after being found guilty of misconduct, while an unregistered builder from Cranbourne West has been convicted and fined $30,000 plus costs after investigation by the VBA. Both cases demonstrate how important it is for consumers who are considering building or renovating to ensure that their practitioner holds the relevant license or registration to do the work required. For more information on VBA disciplinary matters, please visit the VBA Media Release
