VBA Congratulates Plumbers’ Contribution to Victoria on World Plumbing Day 2016

On World Plumbing Day, the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) has recognised the important role the plumbing industry plays in the quality of life in Victoria by ensuring the integrity of the state's water supply.

Many communities around the world do not have what Australians take for granted – access to clean water for drinking and washing, and safe drainage and sewerage systems.

World Plumbing Day 2016

On 11 March, the VBA will be joining in the celebrations for World Plumbing Day. World Plumbing Day is an international event that highlights the important role that plumbing plays in the health, safety and sustainability of the community. It was initiated by the World Plumbing Council and is celebrated annually.

As part of World Plumbing Day events, representatives from the VBA will be attending the Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC) World Plumbing Day 2016 Industry Forum, which focuses on impacts on the future of the plumbing industry.

NCC 2016 preview available on ABCB website

In preparation for the 1 May 2016 implementation date of the new National Construction Code, the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) has made the NCC 2016 available on their website.

The preview of the NCC 2016 will allow practitioners time to familiarise themselves with Volumes One, Two and Three of the NCC along with the Guide to Volume One and the Consolidated Performance Requirements.

Sheet lead flashings in roofing applications

Sheet lead remains a commonly used roof flashing material in modern home construction and plumbing practitioners need to ensure they select the right lead for the job.

Sheet lead needs to be a minimum thickness of 1.7mm, which equates to approximately 20Kg/m2, as per Table 8.1.2 of SA HB39:2015 – Installation code for metal roof and wall cladding.

Protection of adjoining properties
