Unregistered builder fined $40,000 and convicted of fraudulent behaviour

An unregistered builder who entered into a Major Domestic Building Contract worth $370,000 after providing false insurance details has been fined and convicted in the Dandenong Magistrates' Court.  Mr Alex Varghese faced six allegations and in each instance was found guilty with conviction. He was fined a total of $40,000 and ordered to pay costs of $485.92.

  • 55 per cent higher than the previous month

Total value of permits issued in February 2016: $2.46 billion

  • 67.6 per cent higher than the previous month

ABCB commences consultation on Fire Sprinkler Regulatory Impact Statement

The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is inviting stakeholders to comment on the Automatic Fire Suppression Systems for Covered Balconies in Residential Buildings Consultation Regulation Impact Statement (RIS). The RIS assesses the problem of fire occurring on balconies of residential buildings over 25 metres and considers options to safeguard occupents in the case of a fire event.

EPA video urges builders to ‘know where your waste is going’

Know where your waste is going - that's EPA's message in a new video targeting anyone producing or transporting construction and demolition (C&D) waste in Victoria.

Released as part of EPA's Illegal Dumping Strikeforce Program dedicated to tackling large scale dumping of industrial waste, EPA's video urges building contractors and site managers to check that their C&D waste has been transported to an appropriate recycler or landfill.
