VBA demands rectification on dangerous Footscray excavation site

An inspector from the Victorian Building Authority's (VBA) proactive inspection team has helped avert a potential disaster discovered during an inspection of a building site in Footscray in November 2015.

As part of the VBA's enhanced proactive approach to enforcement and consumer protection, a VBA inspector attended an apartment building development in Footscray after being notified of a major excavation that was affecting the adjoining properties.

Reforms for Building Industry Bring New Powers for VBA

The Andrews Government today announced a series of reforms that address long term issues within the legislative framework governing the building industry in Victoria. These reforms will significantly improve the ability the VBA has to regulate the industry.

The VBA CEO Prue Digby welcomed the reforms and said they will strengthen the protections afforded to consumers and ensure the quality of buildings across Victoria.

"The decision to empower the VBA to register, discipline, monitor and enforce compliance is an example of how these reforms will streamline processes and provide consumers and practitioners with greater security, confidence and certainty," said Ms Digby.

Scheduled outage to eToolbox portals

The Victorian Building Authority will have a scheduled outage on Friday 11 December 2015 from 12am to 6am. Both public and practitioner portals for building and plumbing will not be available during this time.

The VBA apologises for any inconvenience caused.
