Reminder regarding an important change to standards affecting plumbers

If you carry out sanitary plumbing and drainage work, you need to be aware of an amendment to the relevant plumbing standards.

The amendment refers to AS/NZS 3500.2:2015 Plumbing and drainage Part 2: Sanitary plumbing and drainage.

It's important to remember that if you carry out sanitary plumbing and drainage work, you need to be aware of an amendment to the relevant plumbing standards.

The connection of any sanitary drain to a graded drain, above or below ground must now be made with a 45 degree junction.

The use of sweep junctions installed on grade are now deemed as non-compliant.

This amendment (published on 30 June 2017) is designed to ensure the free-flowing function of sanitary drains and was introduced based on industry feedback.

Plumbing practitioners must comply with this amendment when carrying out their plumbing work.

The amendment is also available free of charge from the SAI Global website.
