The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) has sponsored a special industry event at the Brunswick Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC) ahead of World Plumbing Day on Saturday 11 March.

World Plumbing Day is an international event initiated by the World Plumbing Council, with this year's theme for the day 'Sustainability and Growth for the Future of our Community'.

VBA Chief Executive Officer Prue Digby said it was appropriate to mark the role of plumbers and plumbing worldwide in securing a safe, secure and sustainable future.

"There are just over 26,000 plumbing practitioners who are registered or licensed by the VBA, which provides confidence for consumers that work they have done for them is compliant and will deliver a safe, healthy and sustainable environment for them and the community," says Ms Digby said.

The continuing growth of the building and construction sector presents challenges the VBA is not only facing, but embracing.

"We have been implementing a new process for registration and licensing of plumbers and builders in Victoria – one that is more rigorous but simpler to use and reduces the regulatory burden on industry," says Ms Digby.

"World Plumbing Day recognises the important role plumbing plays in the health, safety and sustainability of our community, and the VBA is pleased to support the activities at PICAC as a Gold Sponsor," Ms Digby said.

VBA staff volunteers were on hand to answer questions and talk to guests at the Plumbing Trades Expo, held as part of the event, and Commissioner Anne Barker, represented the new VBA Chief Commissioner, Dr Owen Donald, with an address at the centrepiece of the day, the Plumbing Industry Forum.
