Building activity remains flat in April

Building activity worth $3.12 billion was approved in April, after Victoria’s building surveyors issued 8144 permits during the month.

The number of permits issued was the second lowest this year and extends the current downward trend into its third consecutive month.

Despite the drop in approval numbers, the reported cost of works for April 2019 was $3.115 billion – almost $103 million higher than the March total.

Overall, the value of building permits issued in April was $245.62 million higher than at the same time last year.

But in terms of permit numbers, 1215 fewer permits were issued in April this year – a fall of 13 per cent year on year.

The figures were released by the Victorian Building Authority in its monthly building permit activity report.
