Building permit activity weakens in March 2019
More than 8950 building permits were issued in March 2019, taking the total reported cost of work for the month to just over $3 billion. But compared to February, building permit activity in March was noticeably weaker.
At 8954, the number of building permits issued over the month was 217 less than in February 2019.
But in terms of dollar value, the total reported cost of work for March was $400 million less than the previous month’s total.
Overall, building permit activity during March 2019 was significantly weaker than at the same time last year.
The volume of building permits decreased 11.2 per cent over the year, while the total reported cost of work fell by almost a quarter to $3.012 billion.
