Carpenters selected for first stage of trades registration
The State Government has announced that carpenters will be the first cohort of tradespersons required to register with the Victorian Building Authority under the state’s newly developed trades registration framework.
The announcement comes after extensive review of industry and stakeholder feedback received during a public consultation period that commenced in July and ended in August.
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is now considering how best to implement the new registration and licensing scheme for carpentry work.
A paper exploring possible options will be released for public consultation in the coming weeks.
Provisional registration and licensing for carpenters is expected to commence in mid-2021.
The registration and licensing of other trades is not expected to commence until 2022.
