The decade ahead: Trades registration, digital transformation
The State Government has announced that carpenters will be the first cohort of trades to be registered under the trades registration framework.
The announcement comes after extensive review of industry and stakeholder feedback received during a public consultation period that commenced in July and ended in August.
DELWP is now considering how best to implement the new registration and licensing scheme for carpentry work. A paper exploring possible options will be released for public consultation in the coming weeks.
On an operational level, the VBA is focused on the development of a digital registration process to support high volumes of applications and promote a seamless service experience for applicants new to the VBA. The call centre is also being upskilled to support an increased volume of enquiries.
Provisional registration and licensing for carpenters is expected to commence in mid-2021.
The registration and licensing of other trades is not expected to commence until 2022.
