During 2018–19, the VBA issued 64 compliance requests to practitioners for rectification of matters to prevent significant impacts on life safety. 1571 requests were also made to rectify work to prevent potentially adverse effects on life safety and 2041 requests were issued for rectification of general and low-risk matters. This proactive approach led to the resolution of non-compliant issues on 3032 buildings under construction.

The inspection of swimming pool sites around Victoria was also a focus for the VBA during 2018–19, with more than 500 pools and spas inspected to ensure compliant safety barriers were in place. The inspections resulted in the VBA issuing seven Emergency Orders, 277 Building Orders for Minor Works and four Building Notices to bring swimming pool barriers into compliance.

The VBA also finalised building permits for ten sites associated with deregistered building surveyors.
