VBA partnering with industry to address orphaned building work

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) acknowledges that orphaned building work continues to be a significant issue for the community and industry.
The VBA is currently testing potential sector-wide shared solutions in partnership with industry stakeholders.
Sector capacity, capability and funding will all be carefully considered and factored into the VBA’s whole of sector response.
The VBA is also helping provide consumer solutions, launching a pilot program for reviewing orphaned permits and the associated building work, establishing the best pathway for resolution.
The Victorian Budget 2022/23 included $7.9 million over two years for building reforms to secure Victoria’s economic recovery, including addressing the issue of orphaned building work.
The VBA has a unique line of sight to Victoria’s building industry and is using its expertise to engage with industry to strengthen Victoria’s building system and work towards shared outcomes.
The VBA is changing in a way that achieves best outcomes for Victorians, adopting a new approach to regulation, and the way we set out to achieve this approach.
The VBA will continue to keep industry updated on the progress of this work.
