Building surveyor Code of Conduct

Workers shaking hands
Implementing a code of conduct for building surveyors was a key recommendation of the 2018 Building Confidence report and it will be a key element of the VBA’s work in 2020 and beyond.

As part of a push for national consistency across the building industry, the Building Confidence report by Peter Shergold and Bronwyn Weir recommended minimum statutory requirements for the engagement and role of building surveyors, a code of conduct with legislative status and enhanced supervisory powers and reporting obligations.

Industry has expressed support for a code of conduct and the VBA has worked hard to create a set of standards that will create greater consistency across Victoria. Consultation with key industry stakeholders has commenced, with the aim of releasing the Victorian code of conduct early next year.
