Civil and structural engineers registration deadline approaching

Civil and structural engineers must register with the Business Licensing Authority (BLA)​ by 1 October 2022.


The mandatory registration of civil and structural engineers in the building industry commenced on 1 July 2021.

All other civil and structural engineers must register with the BLA by 1 October 2022.

If you know of a practitioner working as a civil or structural engineer who is not registered with the BLA, please direct them to the Consumer Affairs Victoria website.

An engineer does not need to register if working under the direct supervision of a registered practising professional engineer or only in accordance with a prescriptive standard.

Registration of professional engineers working in the building industry with the BLA commenced on 1 July 2021.

Mandatory registration of other engineers will be phased in:

  • civil and structural engineers by 1 October 2022
  • electrical engineers by 1 June 2023
  • mechanical engineers by 1 December 2023.
