Non-compliant floor waste gully and fixture trap risers

It has come to the attention of the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) that some plumbing practitioners are installing non-compliant gully risers, fixture traps and self-sealing devices.

Plumbing practitioners must ensure that the height of the floor gully riser, measured from the top of the water seal to the floor surface level, does not exceed 600mm.

Note: It is only permissible to extend the height of a gully riser to 1m where the gully riser only receives plant room discharges and where the gully is located above the ground floor level.

For all other fixtures, the maximum distance from the outlet of a fixture to the surface of the water seal of a trap shall be 600mm.

All sanitary fixtures and appliances must have a trap or self-sealing device that is accessible and installed in the same room as the fixture or appliance it serves.
