Research to Improve the Evidence Base Relating to Non-Conforming Building Products

Research to Improve the Evidence Base Relating to Non-Conforming Building Products

In July 2015, the Building Ministers' Forum (BMF) established the Senior Officers' Group (SOG). The main purpose of the SOG is to advise the BMF on strategies to minimise the risk to consumers, businesses and the community associated with the failure of building products to conform to relevant laws and regulations. The Victorian Building Authority and the Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning have representation on the SOG.

One of the projects SOG is pursuing is designed to better understand the impact of non-conforming building products on the Australia building supply chain. The SOG has determined to undertake independent research to clearly determine the scale, nature and prevalence of problems, causative issues and factors relating to non-conforming building products. The Western Australian jurisdiction is taking the lead on the project and tender documents for the research proposal can be found here.
