Building surveyors can learn more about enforcement

Victorian building surveyors can hear from experts at the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) on the important topic of building enforcement at the VBA’s next Practitioner Education Series webinar.

The masterclasses are a chance for practitioners to hear directly from industry experts on a range of topics including performance solutions and design for seismic durability.

The next session, scheduled for Thursday 28 April, will give an insight into enforcement under the Building Act 1993 and Building Regulations 2018.

The VBA’s State Building Surveyor Andrew Cialini said building surveyors can find out more about how to carry out their enforcement responsibilities correctly and what tools are available to assist them with the process.

“Practitioners have told us they want more of this support to better understand technical requirements and how to comply,” Mr Cialini said.

“Our compliance and enforcement role helps practitioners and the communities they serve reach their potential by promoting a safe and sustainable built environment.”

The enforcement webinar will be presented by the VBA’s Anita Dorfer-Mehanic.

Ms Dorfer-Mehanic is a Building Surveyor, Special Projects with the Office of the State Building Surveyor and has over 18 years of experience in the industry.

She is registered as a Building Surveyor Unlimited and has broad ranging skills specifically in relation to enforcement and municipal building control.

Mr Cialini said the Practitioner Education Series was an opportunity for the VBA to continue working directly with the industry to pass on knowledge.

“The VBA engages, educates and regulates industry to deliver positive social and economic outcomes for Victorians, and to promote a quality, safe and vibrant building industry” he said.

“The webinars are an important part of our activities and contributes to a more responsive, proactive and trusted regulator that monitors and enforces safe, compliant buildings.”

Already this year, the VBA has hosted a three-part series on Plumbing Performance Solutions.
