Prosecution and Disciplinary Register

The Prosecution and Disciplinary Register records disciplinary action taken against registered building industry professionals, building companies and plumbers in Victoria. It holds individual building records from April 2019, company building records from July 2018 and plumbing records from June 2019.

The records detail all disciplinary proceedings in which a building industry professional, building company or plumber has been found:

  • to have contravened the Building Act, the Building or Plumbing Regulations, and/or the Domestic Building Contracts Act; or
  • no longer fit to practice in the industry.

Entries remain on the register for five years after they are imposed or cease to have effect, whichever is the later.

Where a practitioner has been the subject of more than one disciplinary proceeding, each will have a separate entry on the Register.

The information in the Register is only made available to the public after the relevant periods for internal review have expired. Where disciplinary sanctions imposed by the VBA against registered building practitioners are under appeal at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), this will be noted on the Register.

The Register does not include:

  • information about current enquiries or investigations
  • any other complaints made against the practitioner, such as cases involving disputes at VCAT or those reported to Consumer Affairs Victoria.
